While growing up, many remember taking part in the D.A.R.E. program through school. As just another speech to listen to (or fall asleep to), the point was to warn of the dangers of taking drugs and alcohol. Some states have noticed how words flow through one ear and out the other of these middle school students. In order to catch their attention, kids in New Mexico were “arrested for drunk driving” and put through mock hearings with real officers, judges, and court employees, with the hopes of making this a state-wide program.
Drunk Driving Penalties in Wisconsin
These students were put through the legal process in order to understand what it’s like to be arrested for DUI, the fines that must be paid, and in some cases, jail time that must be served. While the students got to return home after the program was through, the penalties of driving drunk in Wisconsin will affect your life for more than a few hours. Implementing a hands-on program for these teenagers to understand the consequences of drinking and driving hopes to curb underage drinking and instill ideas of safer, alternative rides home after drinking as adults.
