It would be so easy to go out, have some drinks, and with a press of a button on your smartphone have a ride home within minutes. This month the NFL has launched a program for every active NFL player to utilize an App on their smartphones for a safe and discreet ride home after having a few drinks.
How Does an App Prevent Drunk Driving?
The NFL partnered with Uber Technologies to provide transportation in 17 NFL cities and Honolulu (Pro Bowl Host city). The NFL player launches the App on his smartphone and within minutes transportation is ready to pick him up. The App uses GPS to locate the NFL player, so there is no need to make a phone call or give directions. Each player will have his own personalized key chain card which contains credits to use the service.
Is the Service Solely for NFL Players?
No. This service can be utilized by any person who feels he/she has had a few too many drinks and do not want to be charged with a drunk driving offense. However, the service is not available in every city or every state, and is not yet available in Wisconsin. If you want to prevent a Wisconsin DUI, you will still need to contact family, friends, or a taxi service.
