This week marks the 7th Annual Operation Dry Water (ODW), a national boating under the influence (BUI) awareness and enforcement campaign. The mission of Wisconsin’s Operation Dry Water is to reduce the number of alcohol-related accidents and fatalities through increased recreational boater awareness and by fostering a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water. This means an increased presence of law enforcement officers patrolling Wisconsin lakes and other bodies of water.
#WisconsinBUI is considered when you have a Legal Blood Alcohol Limit of 0.08% or higher. Though driving a boat while intoxicated does not affect the privileges of operating a motor vehicle, such as your driver’s license being suspended or revoked, it does carry the potential for penalties of large fines, potential jail time, and completion of a boating safety course. If you have had the misfortune of getting arrested for a Wisconsin BUI, it is important to hire an attorney with experience in Wisconsin DUI Defense. You should get your case evaluated by one of our experienced DUI defense attorneys. Operating while intoxicated cases, no matter what type of vehicle you are driving, can be defended even when test results show a prohibited alcohol concentration. Our skilled Wisconsin Boating Under the Influence Attorney will carefully investigate your case to identify any number of possible defenses.
The 4th of July is the All-American holiday known to be spent in the company of good friends and family, oftentimes on the water. Unfortunately, it is also known for an increase in deadly accidents resulting from drinking and boating. Alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in recreational boating deaths in the United States. Operation Dry Water hopes to change that by increasing the presence of law enforcement on Wisconsin lakes to deter boaters from drinking past the legal limit. If you plan to hit the water this weekend, remember to keep your drinking under the legal limit, keeping yourself as well as others safe. All agencies in Wisconsin and across the nation that have jurisdiction on a lake or on water are going to be out patrolling this weekend.
